90% of French people own a television, according to a study by Captify for GroupM (WPP) surrounding Connected TV and 75% use Connected TVs.
The French now use their TV for more than 4 activities—64% for digital use, excluding the viewing of live TV or replaying programs from traditional or paid for channels. Their televisions are also used to stream content via Netflix or Amazon Prime (41%), watch free content on YouTube (31%), visit a website (25%) or listen to the radio (24%).
Driven by YouTube, free ad-supported offerings are taking hold. Nearly a third of French people have already watched free content, including 27% on YouTube and 13% on platforms such as Rakuten TV or Pluto TV. The study points out that 36% of French people are prepared to accept advertising in return for free content or discounts on subscriptions.
Targeted digital advertising also wins the support of the French—with 34% expressing an interest in the ads they are being targeted if they are relevant to their interests or passions. This stat hits 62% for regular users of free offers.
Methodology: Study conducted with 1,569 people, from the GroupM proprietary panel (MPanel tool). The survey was conducted online from September 8 to September 13, 2022.
